Release Announcement: New Single “Guns N’ Roses Saved My Life” Out Today

guns n roses saved my life

Thirty years ago, on the 16th of December in 1986, Guns N’ Roses first record Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide was released. The same date has been chosen for The Genuine Fakes’ new single release, which is a tribute to the biggest band on earth. The song itself tells the story of a boy who hears Guns N’ Roses for the first time, after which his life is forever changed. That story is actually true, as the band’s singer Joey was that boy:

“I remember sitting there completely floored. It was “Paradise City” that I heard, and I couldn’t fathom how something could be that cool. It had a profound effect on me, and in that very moment, I knew that I had to become a musician myself. A dream was born, and I’ve stuck with it ever since.”

“Guns N’ Roses Saved My Life” is a grand pop tune, filled with hooks and melodies galore. For the attentive listener there are also some GNR related references, both in the lyrics and the sound. Naturally, the artwork is also a not-so-subtle nod in GNR’s direction – the Appetite cover re-imagined by designer Lee Hasler.

The second album is slated for release in 2017, and is co-produced by Jon Auer of The Posies/Big Star.

“Guns N’ Roses Saved My Life” is available on iTunes and streaming services. You can also support us by buying the song directly from us on Bandcamp.

Release Announcement: New Christmas Single

Frozen-THE-GENUINE-FAKES

Christmas is drawing near, and it’s a semi-tradition for us to put out a new song around this time. This year we are giving you our take on a song from the Disney movie Frozen: “Do You Want to Build a Snowman”. As the b-side, we’ve included last year’s “You Always Come Back Home (for X-mas)”, which was previously only available on the CD A Kool Kat Kristmas Volume Two.

The artwork was made by Vincent Vermeij, whose work we’re big fans of. Check out more of his art at Chungkong.nl.

Frost is out now on iTunes and Spotify.

Update:

Lossless format is now available through Bandcamp.

“The Striped Album” turns 1

Today is the first anniversary of our debut album. We thought it would be appropriate to thank every one of you who has bought the CD, downloaded it on iTunes, listened to it on Spotify and come to our gigs. We hope you will enjoy the next album just as you did the first. Here’s to a fun and prosperous 2012!

There are still CD’s to be had in our webshop if you haven’t bought one already.

Liner Notes EP out tomorrow!

Tomorrow, on 11-11-11, our new EP entitled Liner Notes will be released digitally worldwide. We’re super-psyched about sharing these tracks with you and hope you’ll like ’em as much as we do. It’s a collection of a total of eight tracks – seven of which have previously only been available on a US bonus CD and on the Japanese version of “The Striped Album”, and one is a brand new song called “Blind Commitment” that we just finished up last week.

We see this release as the end of the beginning – the other side, if you will, of our debut album. It’s the songs that were recorded during the album sessions but for different reasons ended up not being on the finished product. We did find, however, that those tracks fit very well together as a separate unity and therefore we decided to put them out now so you have something to listen to while waiting for the second album. 🙂 So therefore we sat down and re-mixed all the tracks and then sent them to Anders Hellgren (famous from The Merrymakers) who did the mastering. The result will be revealed on Bandcamp tomorrow, and will subsequently be available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify etc.

We’ll give you the full story on the songs tomorrow. For now, here’s the artwork:
