I confess…

18 Feb
I used to be a bit of a Soulseek-addict some time ago. for those who’re not familiar with it, it’s an old-school P2P thingy.. file sharing, that is.
you could find the most amazing rarities there, maybe you still can… patience was a keyword though, it could take weeks just to get a certain song. yes kids, I kid you not…

anyhow, I found a two year old folder full of gold on my harddrive.. mainly british punk/powerpop from ’77-’83. just thought I’d post some of best ones right here. right now. here goes…

Stoat – Office Girl
The Starjets – Any Danger Love
Any Trouble – Turning Up The Heat
The Agents – Modern Girl

great, great stuff..

’til next time

Weekend

15 Feb
time to get this blog going!
last weekend I nailed the remaining bass tracks for TGF songs “Star”, “Blind Commitment”, “Whatever Comes Your Way” and “You Always Come Back Home”. the session was acutally set in the rehersal studio for practical reasons. It all went really well!

I’ll be staying in this weekend. resting, reading and most apparently blogging. as Joey went south (Småland) on friday we’ll pick up the studio work again on tuesday.

(current playmate)

i’d like to end this post with a very special feature of mine:

“Cypress Hill Lyric of the week”.

(LIL’ PUTOS)

So I gotta maintain my direction
What I mighta gained without my protection
Not a damn thing, so when I come just bring that new style, break ya off like a chicken wing

Buckooock!!

So you can just suck my c**k
Like a fat blunt, stoned is the way of the walk
When I’m peepin, checkin out the punk-ass creepin
I let the dogs loose then I let the dogs sick em
Graaah! nigga dont make me catch ya, punk
cause I still will be comin’ at ya

Tracking is done!

13 Feb
Yesterday we laid down the last vocal tracks on the last song! This means we can focus wholly on mixing from now on. We managed to create a very cool vocal arrangement for the song “If You then I” with different harmonies intertwining in a way we haven’t really done before. Next week we’re presenting a batch of songs to a label and it’s going to be very interesting to hear what they have to say about them.

Have a good weekend everyone!

One more day…

12 Feb
Yesterday was a good day for vocals. I did the last of the lead vocal tracks for “C’mon Linda”, “Whatever Comes Your Way” and “You Always Come Back Home”. We also laid down the backing vocals on “Linda” and the last of the keyboard tracks. Today I’m going to be sitting at home editing everything, and tomorrow we’re going back into the studio one last time to finish up on the backing vocals for one last song. Then, we’re done with tracking! Wooohooo!

Hammond- and wurlitzer-tracks completed!!

11 Feb
Today I lay the final hammond/wurlitzer tracks for our planned full-length album. We completed the songs “Whatever Comes Your Way” and “The Promise” so now we basically only need to record the vocals for one more song called “If You Then I” and then we are finished and that feels gooood!
The Hammond organ is a must if you are Tommy Fake

We have been recording for 2+ years now and it seems that we finally can see the light at the end of the tunnel. After these recording sessions we will have roughly 17 complete songs and 5-6 semi-finished songs that we can put on the next album, how cool is that?!?

The next step will obviously be the mixing of these powerpop hits but that will be executed by someone else (which will be announced later).

Hard at work

9 Feb
Hey fakers!

It’s crunch time in the studio and we’re making good progress. Yesterday we finished the instrumentation on two more songs so now we basically only have the vocal tracks left to do on a few tracks. After that we can start mixing everything! It’s going to be a huge weight off our shoulders since it’s been such a long ongoing process for the past couple of years. We can’t wait to show you the result!

Stay tuned…

Finally – no more guitar or bass?!?

9 Feb
After some extra hard work in the temporary studio I think that we finally nailed the last guitars and bass for the album last night. Mårty and Joey were on fire and the result was (as usual) awesome!!

I took this pic of Mårtys beautiful bass amp, it is soooo vintage…

Dressed for success

5 Feb
The fakes costume not only looks great – it feels great! The key to success is to have the correct shoes, pants, shirt, tie but to really nail the outfit more than clothes is required.

Shoes (a.k.a Fakers).
The shoes that are also known as “Fakers” are the standard Converse All Stars as shown in the picture below.

Fakers - Converse All Star

Pants
The pants can be tough to find – a pair of colored jeans in your favorite fake-color (tough to find is a total understatement, which store has yellow pants?!?). Joey wears red, Mårty wears white, Johnny wears blue and I wear yellow.

Tie
The tie should be thin and striped in two colors – black and the color of your pants.

Faker Tie

Shirt
The shirt is a standard short-sleeved fine shirt, pitch black!

Stache
Then, to nail the outfit a mustache is required or as our friend Johnny Fake once said:

Never be caught in public with a bare upper lip.
- Johnny Fake – 2007

That will be a cool name for an album…

That’s it for this time folks…

Studio work

5 Feb
Hey fakers!

For the next couple of weeks we’ll be working our asses off in the studio to get the album wrapped up. We’ve been asked to present all our recorded songs to a label as soon as possible, which gives us the pressure we need to get it done – finally! Up until now we’ve had all the time in the world so we haven’t really put the machine into full gear simply because we didn’t have to. It’s going to be nice to finish up two years of recording so we can focus on getting an album out and rehearsing for live shows without feeling that we’ve got songs that still need working on in the studio.

So, keep your fingers crossed! If everything goes our way we could get an album released before the end of the year. Would be pretty cool, no?

Faking it with The Spinal Tap

4 Feb
A friend of mine pointed out that The Genuine Fakes are not the only ones faking it…

The giant fake known as the Spinal Tap is apparently recording again according to Aftonbladet. One of the new songs is named “Gimme some more money”!

Very very cooool!!
